October 2007 (Clash of the Titans Tourney)

Word from the Director: I'd like to thank all who participated in this weekend’s Clash of the Titans Tournament. Congrats to Titans East who reminded us all that hockey is the ultimate team sport. It was a good final and even when things started getting a little heated, I was very proud of how the players brought it back to the game. I want to commend both Titans North and Titans East for getting to the finals, as there were some great hard-fought games, especially the 6-6 tie between North and East and the 3-1 game between East and South! I thought it really showcased who we are and what we can accomplish on the ice.

I’m also impressed to the point that I feel we should have 2 team awards - a gold and silver for the 3rd Annual DFW Public Safety Tournament in April 2008. The level of hockey talent in our Association with the amount of public safety personnel we have, I think we can definitely compete at both levels.

I also want to thank all our players who make our teams possible. Our main goal for this tournament was to have a format that we could play as a group and have some fun. I thought the tournament did accomplish this and gave our non-member players a format to play with us other than just in our leagues. I had the chance to speak with many of you and I appreciate your input. There will be some modifications to rosters and fees next year and also a consistent level of officiating. I hope I didn’t make any major mistakes and that everyone had some fun.

For the guys from the Parks team and Titans North with a few others who went to our after-party at El Arroyo, I was told I had a blast and I think Chris Holder did too, although I’m sure he doesn't remember either! Thanks again, Brian Boisvert.

And here’s my shout-out for the tourney:

MVPs
Paul Unrau (Titans North) - for making all of us look like pretzels
Charlie Shockley (Titans East) - unbelievable speed and defensive play

Iron Man
Chris Holder (Titans North/South) - played in 5 games and even paid for 2 teams

Top Goalie
Jake Jordan (Titans South) - allowed only 3 goals in 2 games. Too bad South was depending on me to take shots!

Be sure and check back for game photos!
